In Massachusetts in June turtles lay their eggs. This means you see them on the road. Many many times I find huge snapping turtles on the road. I will stop and risk my life to save theirs sometimes a 60 plus year old turtle very big and heavy. I'll put them back in the water. I find sun turtles as well. Lately I saw some turtles run over. It makes me so upset 😡. People are so blind they can't see a turtle crossing the street. I grew up as a kid lovng turtles. Everyone PLEASE be aware of turtles on the road. Some are extremely old. I notice this waters fairly deep. Do u recommend or commonly keep hatchlings in deeper water? I’ve always been told they have to be able to raise their head and get it out of the water to breathe but have always wanted to keep mine in a little bit deeper water. Is this a possibility?

I’ve seen one this size in Maryland and it was chilling at the foot of a bridge where it gets really shallow and it’s also where we get off the tubes so as soon as I got out of my raft I saw that big mf and there was like 5 of us all connected together. We ran out of that river so fast 😂

Ya I started out 20 years ago with a new born snapper 10 gallon tank. Now 220 gallon tank for the last 5 years is to small .. You can't just let them go if you raise them since hatching . ITS A LIFE LONG COMMITMENT! If you can't do that don't get a turtle. Mine are in my will. I have 3. A 20 year old an 18 year old and a 13 year old ..560 gallons total 3 tanks. Next is a small pool in the garage.

When you capture these turtles do you rfdi chip them at all So that way when the captured in the future all that information that's been recorded so far for that particular animal is available for the future because that wouldn't be a bad idea to ship them that way you get a continuous record on the same animal if you kept should capture it five years down the road Or every year down the road or once again in 30 years you got all that information from when the last time it was caught. so I would suggest chip in them and you want to chip them in the upper thigh or the back of the thigh is where I've seen people chip turtles and tortoises that way you're not going to get bitten and you can scan them pretty quickly that that area. are you planning a chipping them or have you chipped any of the turtles in the past?
